Road trip up North for the Weekend!

This weekend we took a mini road trip up North.  We always try to pack in as much family fun as we can but we underestimated just how cold it was up North in November already!!  We dressed warm but it was just too cold to spend as much time as we would have liked outdoors.

First stop was Niagara Falls State Park in New York.  We had gone there in late summer and loved the place so we decided to go back.  This was where we underestimated the cold - it was so cold that the mist from the falls turned into mini ice pellets then adding in the wind it was just too cold for our kiddos to be outside for any decent amount of time.  We took a quick picture and were on our way down to Buffalo, NY for the night.

For dinner, we decided to try out Pearl Brewery in Buffalo and we were pleasantly surprised with how kid friendly the place turned out to be.  Our server was fantastic and got our kids food orders underway at the same time as our drink orders.  My husband and mother in law ordered the beer sampler and they both loved it.  I ordered the beef street stroganoff, my mother in law ordered the beef stroganoff and my husband ordered a burger.  All in all the food was good and the place was clean but best of all since it was fairly noisy inside our kids didn't disturb anyone.  We also love staying at the Embassy Suites because of our large family and the free breakfast!  The Embassy Suites in Buffalo did not disappoint.  We had a spacious room and a yummy warm continental breakfast in the morning.

Next stop was Hamilton, ON to visit McMaster University.  McMaster University is my alma mater so I was excited to show the kids my old dorms and the campus where I went to school.  It brought back wonderful memories of my fun University days and we topped it off with a stop at pita pit for lunch.

We continued our long drive into Toronto to show the kids High Park.  We love High Park because of the amazing playground and free Zoo!  The kids had a blast running around the castle, hanging on the monkey bars, swinging on the tire swing and checking out the animals that can survive the cold winter months.

For dinner we drove into Markham, ON to Big Noodle for some delicious hand pulled noodle bowls. The kids loved the classic beef while my husband and mother in law opted for the spicy beef bowls.  Their chicken wing and taro chip appetizer was also a hit!

We spent the night at the Courtyard Marriott in Mississauga as they had suite style rooms to house us all for the night.  We were pleasantly surprised that there was enough room for us all.

A visit up North isn't complete without a stop at Tim Hortons so the next morning we made a pit stop before starting our long drive back home.  The kiddos loved their hot chocolate and tim bits as did we and the much needed coffee.

On the way home we stopped in Hershey, PA to visit the Hershey Chocolate Factory.  We managed to squeeze in the free Chocolate Tour with the kiddos and learned about how Hershey's chocolate is made.  The ride is quick and easy with the kiddos and they learned quite a bit about the process of making a Hershey's chocolate bar.  Of course, no visit is complete without a quick stop inside the chocolate shop so we left with a few bags of chocolate treats and some memorable photos.

All in all I'd say we did quite well packing in quite a few unique sights in just a few days.  Until next time!
